Plans for a completed Honoring All Veterans Memorial in Veterans Park were presented to the Richfield City Council at a special work session Tuesday afternoon. Recreation Services Director Jim Topitzhofer presented an architect's rendering of a completed site that would include six columns representing the armed forces service branches, 11 rows of granite tablets engraved with the names of deceased service members, lighting, a water fountain, a natural amphitheater for events and extensive landscaping around the site. He asked the council, on behalf of the Honoring All Veterans Memorial board of directors, if it would consider loaning the group money to complete the project, which would be repaid as revenue was collected from the families of soliders, sailors and airmen for engraving their names on the tablets. Topitzhofer also presented a basic plan for the completed site that would cost about $180,000 to complete and a more complete plan estimated to cost $454,800. The city has already spent about $300,000 on the memorial site, Topitzhofer said.

The Richfield City Council welcomed the idea of building a community bandshell in a worksession held Tuesday night.
Jim Topitzhofer, recreation services director, presented a list of benefits a bandshell could have for the City of Richfield.
"The better the venue, the better the concert performances," Topitzhofer said. He also presented a slide show of other city's current pavillions to discuss potential design ideas.
The council showed positive support for the construction of a bandshell but expressed concerns about the site of the venue. The Lyndale Gardens Center and Veteran's Park, near the southeast corner of the ice arena, are the two locations being considered.
Councilmember Fred Wroge said the bandshell would need to go to Veteran's Park because of a lack of parking near the Lyndale Gardens Center.
The bandshell would include a 30-by-50-foot stage and seat a minimun of 300 people. The funding plan would also be dependent upon the location.
