Preliminary count shows school enrollment up 155

Richfield schools have enrolled 155 more students than last year, most of them in the elementary grades, according to a preliminary headcount.

District Business Manager Michael Schwartz told the Richfield School Board Monday night that 4,267 students were enrolled on Sept. 15 compared to 4,112 enrolled on Oct. 1, 2010. The final, official, count will be conducted this year on Sept. 30.

The biggest enrollment gains took place in the elementary grades, with 60 more students enrolled in fifth grade, 46 in kindergarten and 31 in first grade.
