The literacy coach at Richfield Dual Language School has been hired as the school's new principal. 
Marta Shahsavand succeeds Luis Versalles, who had been with the school since its inception five years ago. He has been hired by the Pacific Education Group of San Francisco but remains in the Twin Cities, according to Richfield Superintendent Robert Slotterback.
Shahsavand was introducted to the Richfield School Board at its meeting Monday night. She began her new job on the first day of classes.
Slotterback said the district's newest principal had been the dual language school's literacy coach for two years. She had worked previously at a language immersion school in St. Paul,
Shahsavand's hiring brings to three the number of new principals in district schools this year. Joshua Fuchs and Jodi Markworth were hired this summer to lead, respectively, Richfield Senior High School and Sheridan Hills Elementary School.
