Board members voted unanimously Monday for a ballot measure that will ask residents to vote on a new levy that would generate about $2 million more a year in property tax revenue for the schools. The tax increase would mean the average ($185,800) Richfield home will pay an increase of $119 more annually for the next 10 years.
If residents vote yes for the referendum on the ballot November 8, the current referendum authority which expires in 2012 will be revoked. If a majority of residents are not in favor of the new tax levy, the board will have the opportunity to administer another vote in 2012.
