Richfield DQ gets new look, new owner

The Dairy Queen on 66th Street West will reopen in February

Good weather has kept the remodeling project at the DQ Grill and Chill on 66th Street on schedule.

The Dairy Queen that once was a Burger King on 66th Street West in Richfield is set to reopen at the beginning of February after a facelift and a change in ownership.

Besides the new digital sign that's already operating, the restaurant will have a new look inside and outside to make it more consistent with other Dairy Queen Grill and Chill stores, said Debra Hampton, the American Dairy Queen director of concept support services.

She said this week the parent company is also the restaurant's new owner, making the business one of two corporation-owned Dairy Queen locations. The other is in Edina, where American Dairy Queen's corporate offices are also located.

Inside changes will include removing the solarium-style windows at the front of the building and replacing them with more traditional windows, rearranged seating inside, the addition of a couple of TV screens and a Coke Freestyle self-serve soft drink station.
