The city's share of property taxes levied in RIchfield would increase 3.98 percent next year to pay for a budget approved Tuesday night by the City Council.
The city expects to spend about $19.95 million in 2012, according to the budget resolution, a 2.5 percent increase over this year.
The council also decreased the amount it plans to spend in 2011 at Tuesday's meeting, trimming $231,200 from its current budget because it expects to take in that much less in revenue.
Here's a breakdown of the budget for 2011 and the proposed budget for 2012:
| Department | 2011 | 2012 |
| Legislative/executive | $745,290 | $760,480 |
| Administrative services | 1,104,930 | 1,139,930 |
| Public safety | 7,596,430 | 7,803,320 |
| Fire services | 3,372,730 | 3,482,540 |
| Community development | 1,107,140 | 1,121,720 |
| Public works | 3,982,080 | 4,034,030 |
| Recreation services | 1,557,050 | 1,596,830 |
| Transfers | 15,960 | 13,680 |
The tax increase is a preminary figure. Under state law, the city can decrease the amount it proposes to take in property taxes but not increase it. The city's truth-in-taxation public hearing on the tax levy is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at City Hall.
The Hennepin County Board also anticipates a property tax increase, approving a maximum property tax levy of $676.1 million, 1 percent higher than the 2011 levy.
